Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Madison Tompkins, but I prefer to be called Madi. This is my second semester as a fully online transfer student at UMassD majoring in Women’s and Gender Studies, and I am set to graduate in Spring 2021. I live in upstate New York where I work full time for a facility called Transitions through my county’s ARC chapter. What I do as a peer mentor is support young adults with learning differences to foster their independence in their professional, educational, and personal lives. Part of my job that is pretty different from most is my schedule, as I sleep overnights from Tuesday until Thursday every week at a supportive apartment to help further the learning experience outside of a classroom setting. I love my job despite its challenges, it is extremely rewarding and having four days off allows me to pursue my education.

When looking through the collection of feminist blogs, one that was familiar to me was Everyday Feminism. I have personally been on EF’s site before because I have followed it on social media for some time, but I also had experience in classes from my previous semester where some sources provided from my professor was from EF. This blog has a wide variety of feminist topics that is discussed by different feminist authors to provide more diverse standpoints into issues that one may not have an inside perspective on. I also feel that this site is also very informative, last semester I recall reading an article about the strategy “calling in” rather than calling out people for their wrongdoings. I feel as though I can take away from EF’s blog styling by researching multiple standpoints so that I can potentially provide more informative postings about different topics. One aspect of this blog that I hope to differ from is making the posts more personal. EF’s authors make their articles personal, but the blog as a whole has more community contributors, so I hope to make my blog more in depth into my personal experiences.

One environmental issue I believe is very relevant to where I live is water pollution. Where I live in New York, the Mohawk River runs through many of my neighboring towns and cities. According to a local news source The Daily Gazette, starting in 2016 to 2018 it is estimated that nearly 500,000 gallons of sewage was flowing into the Mohawk River due to overwhelmed sewage collection systems during storms or periods of increased runoff. During this time, the Department of Environmental Conservation urged people to avoid fishing and swimming in the river. Since then, New York State government has provided funding toward the Mohawk Valley watershed and to other cities impacted by the sewage flow. Growing up in towns along the Mohawk, I remember it always being littered with garbage and just a generally dirty body of water. Water pollution is a growing issue across the world with the prevalence of discussions surrounding cleaning up our oceans, but other smaller bodies of water are also suffering from the impacts of water pollution.

Coming into this class, I do admit that the concept of Ecofeminism is still foreign to me. I am intrigued to learn what this class has to offer on another standpoint of feminism, and I look forward to learning with everybody this semester!

  2. What Are the The Benefits of Private Lessons for Junior and High
School Students? From a Parent’s Perspective

    Numerous guardians frequently wonder:

“Will private tutoring really assist my child face exams or TKA?”

From my own experience, the outcome is: extremely helpful, but with
the caveat that you pick the proper tutor, appropriate methods, and focus on your child’s progress.

FAQ 1: Which Subjects Are for Private Tutoring?

Back then, my child’s school instructor covered
all subjects, yet not all students were able to absorb the material effectively.
Private tutoring helps align learning pace
    with the child’s ability.

    Subjects I prioritized:

Bahasa Indonesia: Reading comprehension, text analysis, essay writing.

Mathematics: Basic concepts, logic, TKA/SBMPTN question types.

English: Reading comprehension, grammar, writing skills.

Physics & Chemistry: Science concepts, exercises,
    virtual experiments.

Biology: Fact memorization + contextual understanding.

Economics: Economic concepts, data analysis, interpretation.

Sociology & Geography: Social phenomena, data interpretation, maps, diagrams.

According to Universitas Negeri Malang (Pratama, 2022), students who get personal guidance demonstrate an boost in problem-solving ability of up
    to 37% relative to self-study.

FAQ 2: Is Online Private Tutoring Effective?

At first, I was hesitant. My child favored face-to-face sessions.
    Yet, after enrolling with NgajarPrivat.com,
online methods proved effective when tutors use active interaction:

    Real-time quizzes

    Screen sharing for exercises

    Direct discussion of concepts

Research from Universitas Sebelas Maret (Wijayanti, 2023)
shows that interactive online learning increases student conceptual understanding by up to 42%.

Case Study: Changes in My Child After Private Tutoring

    Before attending private lessons:

Math and Physics remained stagnant at scores 60-65

    English struggled with long passages

Biology and Economics struggled to connect concepts to real problems

After using LapakGuruPrivat.com (offline at home), KoncoSinau.id (real-time evaluation), and NgajarPrivat.com (flexible online/offline):

    Math scores increased to 80+

English became smoother in reading and essay writing

Biology and Economics better understood + able to solve real questions

According to UGM (Santoso, 2022), personalized guidance adapting methods per student improves learning effectiveness by up to 40%.

FAQ 3: How to Choose the Right Tutor?

From my experience, several tips are important:

Check Qualifications: Tutor must have a relevant subject background.

Learning Methods: Should align with the child’s personality, e.g., problem exercises, discussion,
    or virtual experiments.

Flexibility: Tutor should be available online or offline based on need.

Progress Evaluation: Focus on improving skills, not just test scores.

Practical Tips to Make Children Comfortable While Studying

Create a structured yet flexible schedule

Choose a comfortable study space, at home or online

Ensure the child engages, not just listens

Use exam-like problems matching the exam type

According to Universitas Airlangga (Mulyadi, 2021), this personalized learning approach
enhances students’ self-efficacy by up to 42%, indicating they are more confident facing difficult questions.

FAQ 4: Which Platform Is Most Suitable for My Child?

From personal experience and small school-based research:

LapakGuruPrivat.com: Tutors come to home, focus on child’s progress, ideal for intensive offline sessions.

    tutors.

NgajarPrivat.com: Tutor matching based on child’s needs, top university alumni, flexible online/offline.

    Conclusion

Private tutoring for middle and high school children is not just about grades.

It’s about learning strategy, conceptual understanding,
and analytical ability. My child is now more confident facing TKA, school exams, and university entrance assessments.

With the right tutor, a child’s learning outcomes can be optimized without
    stress.

  3. What Is the Experience of Joining Private OSN Math Tutoring as a Student?

If someone asked me how it is to join a private Math Olympiad class,
my answer would be simple—it feels like a rollercoaster.
Between headaches from tough questions, joy when finding clever strategies,
and pride after solving what once felt impossible.
I clearly remember the first time I joined the Math Olympiad selection at school.
I was shocked. It was totally different from a regular exam.
In a normal test, you just apply formulas and you’re done.
But Olympiad problems? Sometimes the formulas you memorized are completely useless.

    That’s when I realized I needed help.

Can Private Math Olympiad Tutoring Make a Difference?

At first I was skeptical. I thought self-study
would be enough since there are many books and YouTube videos.
But after failing at the district-level selection,
I decided to try private tutoring. According to research from the University of Oxford, personalized learning with a
    tutor can significantly improve conceptual
understanding, especially for advanced subjects like Olympiads (Topping, 2014).
And honestly, I experienced this myself.
At NgajarPrivat.com, I met a tutor who didn’t just teach the material, but
also taught me how to think. For example, when I was stuck on a number theory problem, he didn’t directly give the answer.

Instead, he asked me guiding questions that made me rethink my approach.

From there, I learned that Olympiads are not just about speed, but about logic.

How Is Learning With a Private Teacher Different From Self-Study?

When I studied alone, I usually could only check answers in the key.

If I got it wrong, I was left confused. But with a private tutor, every mistake was dissected—why it was wrong, where the thinking pattern went astray, and how
to fix it. According to research by VanLehn (2011), direct feedback
from a tutor is a key factor in accelerating learning.

I experienced this when I joined a class at KoncoSinau.id.
While practicing combinatorics, I often miscalculated.
My tutor immediately showed me how to use tree diagrams to clarify things.
Since then, I’ve made far fewer mistakes.

Does Online Private Tutoring Work Just as Well as Offline
    Classes?

I tried both methods. Face-to-face lessons were
great for intense discussions, while online ones were practical because I didn’t need to leave home.
According to a meta-analysis by Means et al. (2013),
online learning can be just as effective as offline if supported with the right materials and experienced tutors.
At LapakGuruPrivat.com, I joined online classes via Zoom, and it worked surprisingly
well. The tutor could share their screen, write formulas on a tablet, and even record the session so I could rewatch it later.
Personally, I found that combining online and offline
was the best: offline for heavy topics needing full focus, and online for extra practice.

Are Practice Questions the Main Key to Success?

If someone says practice is the key, I agree—but not just random practice.
What makes the difference is how the problems are
discussed. In private lessons, I didn’t just receive past Olympiad problems,
but also international variations. My tutor explained this as deliberate practice, targeted training focused on our
weaknesses (Ericsson et al., 1993). For example, I was weak in geometry.
So each week, I had more geometry practice than algebra.
At first it was stressful, but over time I became comfortable.

Are Private OSN Lessons Meant Just for Smart Kids?

I used to think private Olympiad tutoring was only for geniuses.
But after joining, I realized anyone can do it, as long as they have commitment and consistency.
According to research by Carol Dweck (2006) on growth mindset, success
is determined more by mindset than by innate talent.
So even though I failed many times at first, my tutor always said: the important thing is not to give up.
Gradually, I built confidence. I even saw classmates at NgajarPrivat.com or KoncoSinau.id who started as average students, but with
consistent practice and guidance, they made it to the provincial level.

What’s the Biggest Lesson From Joining Private Math
    Olympiad Tutoring?

If asked about the biggest lesson, I’d say it’s learning
patience and trusting the process. Beyond mathematics, I felt my character also grew.
I became more persistent, more confident facing tough problems, and less likely to give up.
According to a study from the University of Indonesia, participating in science competitions increases
students’ academic resilience because they are used to facing challenges (Putri, 2019).
For me, winning or losing at the Olympiad was just a bonus.
The real value was the mentality built during the learning process.

Am I Sorry for Enrolling in Private Tutoring?

Not at all. In fact, I’m grateful I took that step. Without it, I might still
be stuck in an ineffective learning pattern. With the help of tutors
from NgajarPrivat.com, KoncoSinau.id, and LapakGuruPrivat.com, my journey became
more structured. As a result, I managed to reach the provincial level—something
that once felt like just a dream.

Conclusion: Is Private Math Olympiad Tutoring Worth It?

For me, the answer is clear: it’s worth it. Not only because it
increases the chances of winning, but because the learning
process helped me grow far more quickly than studying alone.
If another student is unsure whether to
join or not, my advice is: just try. Think of it not
as a cost, but as an investment for the future. Because from my
experience, the Olympiad is not just about medals—it’s about how we grow into stronger
    individuals.
